Supermoon!

Students enjoyed learning about the supermoon. They enjoyed putting their creative skills to work with paint and pastels to create their own supermoons! 

Moments filled with peace

As we discuss the importance of Remembrance Day, I reflect on these pictures and see a lot of peaceful moments. Sharing, working together, caring for each other, experimenting with something new, finding quiet spaces, and enjoying the sunshine. We are all so lucky!

On Friday, students enjoyed experimenting with various instruments Miss Lizzy brought for us! Ask your child about their favourite instrument.

We also paired up with the grade 3 classes and conducted a leaf hunt.

After completing the leaf hunt, we had time to put our imaginations to the test. We worked so well with our big buddies to create nature art, and all of the adults were so impressed by how hard we worked on our projects.

On Monday, we discussed the poppy as a symbol of peace and remembrance. We were able to put all of our sky study work to good use as we painted a sky and grass, and then added poppies to our own versions of Flander's fields. The ideas behind Remembrance Day are often difficult for children of this age to understand, but I was very interested in what students already knew about Remembrance Day. Students talked about soldiers, war, fighting with weapons, peace between people and countries, and wearing a poppy over our hearts. I look forward to many more peaceful moments this week!

First Day of Skating!

Students enjoyed their first day of skating this week! I was blown away by how resilient they were, and how hard they worked to get better while they were on the ice. There were lots of smiles and helping hands! A big THANK YOU to all of the parents for coming out to tie skates and help on the ice!

Going a little batty!

We had a special guest today: Batty Patty! 

Batty Patty taught us so much about bats! Ask your child what they remember learning about bats being 'nocturnal' and using 'echolocation'.

We learned that bats flap their wings 20 times per second. We tried to mimic this, but realized that they are flapping very fast!

We learned that bats eat 600 bugs per hour. Over the course of a night, the number of bugs a bat would eat is equivalent to us eating 20 pizzas!

Chasing clouds

We have been talking a lot about weather, sky and our local landscape. With such low clouds hanging around Marysville this past week, we took the opportunity to go 'cloud chasing' on Tuesday. Students enjoyed tracking the cloud down, and then watching as it came across the water below. They were so excited to watch it surround them! 

Looking back at September and October!

During our morning meetings, we reflect on activities we completed the day before, and a student draws a picture about a favourite part of the day on our calendar. Below are the September and October calendars for you to talk about with your child. It's amazing to think we have now been in school for almost two months!

What an impressive set of costumes!

Everyone had a great morning moving through stations set up in each classroom with their buddy groups. In the afternoon, we visited the Grade 3 Halloween Howl in the gym, and then did Halloween related activities. 

I hope everyone has a great time trick-or-treating! Just a friendly reminder, please don't send any treats in lunches that have nuts in them.
