Before you toss those old toys, puzzles, etc....

Please think of us!! We know that your houses fill up with lots of new toys and games at this time of year, so if you are clearing out things that your child does not play with anymore, please let us know!If you do have anything to donate to the classroom, please make sure your child is aware of what you are giving us! :) We just had a bunch of puzzles donated to us, which was what made us think to ask!

We are especially interested in:
-small cars (hot wheels, etc)
-barbies/small dolls
-lego, small blocks
-felt board pieces
-recycled/craft supplies (incl. stencils, playdough cutters, paper plates, writing paper, stickers)
-puzzles
-simple small group/board games (i.e. connect 4, UNO, snakes and ladders)
-books in good condition (easy readers and 'read aloud' books)
-CDs (ones that still play and ones that don't!)

If you have something else to donate and aren't sure if we could use it, just ask! Most likely, the answer will be YES :)

Lion's Club Skating Party!

We had so much fun on Friday at the Lion's Club Skating Party! The kids did a great job having all of their gear organized and getting over to the rink, where they had hot dogs and hot chocolate. We then got our skates on and showed the Gr 1, 2 and 3's how awesome we are at skating now! No tears, no injuries= thrilled teachers! After skating, we got to visit Santa and received a bag of goodies!
What a great end to a very busy week!

Winter Concert!

Our Winter Concert was a huge success! The kids did a GREAT job singing, and were so excited to see so many of you there to watch! Thank you for all of your support in making their performances a success!

 

Garden View Visit- December 4

The blue group had another wonderful day at Garden View Village on Wednesday! When we arrived, Elsie and Doris were waiting for us. 

They joined us while we had our snack, and then we sang our song for the Winter Concert. We had a few more Senior Friends gather by that time and everyone loved it! We loved all of the decorations they had in the Golden Room, and Kathy challenged us to a “Present Finding Hunt” to see how many wrapped presents we could find in the building. We found 26! 

We especially loved the decorations Thelma had near her room and the decorations in the front lobby. 

We were told that the big Christmas tree is going up soon, so we are welcome to visit with our families to see it in the front lobby area after this Sunday. After a visit with some more Senior Friends during their coffee break, we went back to the Golden Room to create centerpieces for the dinner tables. Along with our wonderful parent helpers (Ash-Fyn’s mom and Tanya-Luke’s mom), our school helpers (Tamara McLean and Laura Holmes) and our Senior Friends (Doris, Elsie and Marg), we created really cute snowmen and reindeer decorations!

We are excited for the Red group to see them on the tables next week! We finished with Ash reading us a story (There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow) and singing a few songs. While listening to the story, one of our new Senior Friends exclaimed happily, “it has been such a long time since someone last read me a story!”. What a simple joy! We also had a Senior Friend find a few colouring contest pages in the newspaper that she photocopied for us and gave us to colour at school (reindeer and Christmas trees). There were lots of full, happy hearts and smiles today (Senior Friends, Kindergarten students, parents, Garden View staff and school staff included!)

Red Group Garden View Village visit November 27th

We had another excellent day at Garden View Village! Thelma joined us again and asked us to come by her doorway so that we could see the winter scene she and her daughter, Donna, had set up outside her entryway. It was amazing and each of the kindergartens told her their favourite part. We went on a tour of the rest of the facility and joined a group of residents having their morning coffee. The kindergartens went around their chairs and introduced themselves then chatted with the residents for a while. We noticed along the way that the fish tank in the lobby has fewer fish than the tank in Ms. Scott’s room, but the fish are bigger. J Afterwards, we went back upstairs where Peggy (Ms. Kinsey’s mom and one of our volunteers) read a story while Ms. Scott and Mrs. McLean set up the fine motor stations. Thelma joined us again and one of the kindergartens made the comment that “Thelma can colour in the lines and I can’t!” Marg also came in to chat with us then Pat came in after she returned from swimming at the pool. Donna (Thelma’s daughter) and Kathy (the resident manager) stayed with us to help out at the stations. Before we left, we sang “Happy Birthday” to Thelma because we found out her 86^th birthday was the next day!

Skating and Crafting!

We have loved seeing the improvements in skating ability over the past few weeks! 

 

 

We had a busy morning on Friday, creating animal headbands for our Winter Concert. We want to say an extra special big Thank You to Ash and Rene for jumping right in and helping the kids with their creations! They are so super cute!
