While doing a walk/run through the community on Monday, we noticed some equipment and barriers close to our route. We took a little detour and found this huge hole. There was awesome conversation around what the hole was for, what they might be fixing in the hole, and how a coffee cup and green gloves got in there!
When we went on our walk/run today, the kids reminded me of the hole and asked if we could check on it. Some students had been by already with their families and noticed that it was filled in. There was a lot of talk again about what they might have been doing with the hole, how the people felt who lived in the house near the hole, and of course, whether the coffee cup and green gloves were buried in the hole. A few kids thought the new mound of dirt would make a great bike jump!
We also noticed this crazy looking tree, and the kids were very interested in it. They had a lot of ideas about what was growing on this tree- pears, avocados, plums, and surprise spikers that would bite if you got too close. Easton said he had a tree just like this at home. Oscar thought they might be chestnuts, so we have asked for Easton to bring some in so that we can have a closer look.
The eager wondering and curiosity of children is the absolute highlight of my job as a teacher. This group is always coming up with new ideas, interesting questions, and deep connections, and I am so glad that I get to experience these with them!
