2014 Christmas Concert

We used snowmen to explore the numbers 3 and 4!

Our 5 senses help us learn about our world!

Pumpkin soup was fun to make and so was learning about how pumpkins grow and how to roast their seeds!

Christmas Concert at Garden View Village

We did a lovely job singing at Garden View Village with the Grade 1's today!

One of our senior friends, Thelma, and her daughter, Donna, did a beautiful job decorating the space outside Thelma's room. We were able to check it out, and we were given a special treat to have at home!

We will look forward to going back to Garden View Village after the holidays!

Skating Party with Santa and a fluffy visitor!

We had a great time at the Lion's Club Skating Party on Friday!

On Tuesday, we had some fluffy visitors come to see us! Ask us who they belonged to and what we learned!

Mmm Gingerbread Goodies!

We began discussing the story of the Gingerbread Man last week. There was lots of curiosity and excitement, so of course, we had to make our own! After telling the story with felt board characters, we all helped to mix and measure. I absolutely love to bake, and baking with children just makes the experience so much more fun! Ask your child about the ingredients we smelled: ginger, cinnamon, molasses, vanilla, and brown sugar. We had an awesome time seeing how the dry ingredients mixed together, and how the molasses and vanilla changed the colour of the mixture. We also noticed how the dry ingredients made the wet ingredients thicken. We then used cookie cutters to create our own gingerbread men (and 'girls'). We loved getting right into the flour and dough! We popped them in the oven and loved how quickly we made the school smell yummy (many teachers tried to make deals with kids to get some cookies)! Luckily, all of our gingerbread characters stayed put in the oven :) Once they were cooled, we used icing and sprinkles to decorate our creations. The last sprinkles made it on just in time to be gobbled up by these eager, hard-working bakers!

Who loves gingerbread cookies?

Lily the Bat

We had a very special visitor this week. Lily the bat is a rescue bat and her wing was amputated after an injury. Her owner is able to touch her because she has special shots and training to do so.

Lily loves meal worms- we found out that she eats about 40 meal worms per day!

We loved Lily's visit!

Garden View Village Visit

We were very lucky to have a few volunteers helping with creating our dog ears for the concert this past week.

We wore our new ears downstairs to show our Senior Friends the icicle art that we also created.

They loved seeing what we created, and are very excited to hear us sing next week!
