The last school day of 2016!

We loved wearing our PJ's to school to celebrate the last day before our holiday break!

We also loved a surprise pancake and sausage breakfast with our grade 2 buddies in Ms. Kinsey's class!

We also built a blanket fort for our pizza party at lunch!

Ask your child to tell you about the events that took place in December. I hope you all have a safe, happy and HEALTHY holiday break. I look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday, January 3!

December celebrations

The Gingerbread Man story has been a highlight for our class over these last two weeks. We read the story, acted it out, played with the felt board story, built gingerbread man traps outside, and even baked gingerbread cookies! Ask your child to retell the story.

We had so much fun during our last music class of 2016! We are so thankful for Miss Lizzy and the amazing musical experience she is providing for us! Ask your child about the interesting instruments she brought to show us!

We had two new Dynamiters join us for a story early this week! It was so much fun to listen to a story they read, and then do a gingerbread activity with them!

The freezing weather has kept us from long outdoor explorations, but we had a lot of fun hunting for interesting branches and berries. We also loved how the frost made everything glisten in the sun, and how the trees provided a frosty tunnel for us to travel inside of!

We have just finished learning all of the letters and sounds of the alphabet! We have loved our "Magic Bags" and are already brainstorming what we might find in the bags of 2017! We are very excited to use our knowledge of letter sounds in our writing now too.

We have been working on a number of CUTE holiday projects, and will be sending these home in the next couple of days. We have also loved practising and performing for our Christmas Concert, and really appreciate having so many family members come to watch the performance. There will be lots of excitement with our shopping spree and PJ day over the next two days!

Looking back at November!

What a fun-filled month to look back on!
Ask your child to tell you about the adventures we had in November, using our calendar and student drawings about their favourite moments to support your conversation:

Our class is now complete!

We had our 22nd student join our class today, marking our class as FULL! We celebrated with an outdoor adventure, as students were very excited to show him our adventure packs and a few of our special places. As they filled him in about our class and the many activities they have enjoyed this year, I was struck with just how much this class has learned and how cohesive they have become as a group! We were able to go a fair distance from the school and take part in a listening walk, moving quietly and listening to all of the sounds around us. We came across a new special spot, and immediately embraced some time for a precious mindful moment in nature. Some students drew pictures as they sat, while others just took in their surroundings. Of course, there were lots of movement opportunities too, as we ran up and down the hills and explored our new "beaver dam/spaceship"!
Ask your child to tell you all about our newest classmate!

Inventing, creating, experimenting, exploring, MAKING!

We had a special treat at the beginning of the week: James Rota and James Farmer from the Dynamiters came in to read to us!

We then had a couple days of Maker Day projects, working with various materials to create structures. Our first school-wide Maker Day was a huge success, so we are hoping to do a few more throughout this year. Ask us about the groups we worked with in our classroom and in the gym, as well as the supplies we used and the structures we created!
