Take Me Outside Day!

On Thursday, October 24, the staff and students at Marysville Elementary School thoroughly enjoyed a "Take Me Outside" activity day. Students travelled through a series of 8 stations across the school grounds, participating in various outdoor activities. Activities included fort building, water artistry, digging in the garden, pinecone games, sound hunting, investigating a hoop of land, creating pine needle brooms (Thanks again for the idea, Kerry!) and snacking on dried apples (prepared by the Kindergarten classes!). Despite the damp, chilly weather, the kids spent the morning laughing and playing happily outside with their peers. We had some fabulous parent/grandparent volunteers, which made the day even more special. This morning of outdoor activity was our response to the national Take Me Outside challenge, an initiative to get children outside and connected with nature. For more information on the challenge, visit http://takemeoutside.ca/ .

Fun with pumpkins!

We had so much fun examining and comparing pumpkins, gourds and squash today! We each got to pick one to look at and feel, and then we compared them with a partner. We came up with so many ways that they were the same and different. Ask us about the size, shape, colour and (our new word!) texture!
We also talked about all the different things we could do with pumpkins, gourds and squash. We want to cut some of them open to see what's inside and we also want to paint one. Stay tuned! :)

Poinsettias

Marysville PAC will be raising funds by selling Poinsettias. They make great gifts and look very festive! Family, friends and neighbours have happily supported this great fundraising effort in the past, so please ask around! A notice and order form will be going home today (Thursday). Order forms (with cash or cheque made out to Marysville Elementary School PAC) are due Tues Nov 12.
Thanks for your support!

  • boots (rubber, winter)
  • rain pants and snow pants
  • jackets (rain, winter)

Thank you in advance!

We also wanted to pass on information we received at school about a "Winter Clothing Reuse" event.
When: Saturday, Nov 9th 10-2
Where: 395 Marsden St.
Who: Hosted by the Baptist church, open to everyone
"It's free and works just like the reuse; you're welcome to simply come and take something warm that's useful or helpful for you to be geared up for the winter. Or, you can donate items that are clean and in good repair to pass on to others. Need more info? Call Drew at 25-427-7771"
