Dear Parents,

This morning I attended a meeting with the Ministry of Highways, the City of Kimberley, Evan Stavrev Operations Manager for Kimberley Zone SD6 and Wayne Pelter- SD 6 Health and Safety District Representative about the new crosswalk location at the intersection of Highway 95 A and 309 Ave. in front of the Marysville Arena.

From the discussion this morning we have been told that the crosswalk change is effective immediately!! We are hoping with a few changes to current practice, the transition will be smooth, and that the new protocols will make it safe for our students. These changes affect some of the long standing protocols around parking and dropping children off for school.

Crosswalk:

The children will continue to be crossed by our crossing guard Penny Peyman. The children will be crossing on the Rails to Trails side of 309th Ave. The path that leads to the school is for pedestrians as well as bikers so we have asked the children, for safety purposes, to please continue the practice of walking their bike from the crosswalk to the school.

Parking:

The City of Kimberley is placing NO PARKING signs along the fence as the children will be walking down the path.

The staff parking lot causes concern as the children will be walking on the path across the opening of the parking lot. We will ask that there is No Parent and Visitor Parking in the staff parking lot.

The dumpster and the yellow recycle bin will be moved to the far end of the parking lot to increase visibility for the walking children.

While change is often difficult we have tried to think of the children’s safety in all of the above decisions.  Thank you for your cooperation and support in assisting us in this new transition.

Please contact Marilyn Bancks with any questions or concerns.

Smiles and Wonder!

Check out the smiles and laughter brought on by Mrs. Keiver's telling of the Very Hungry Caterpillar!

Look at our beans, carrots and mystery plants grow! Hopefully they will hold out for transplanting to the garden next Thursday!

Garden View Village Visit (Blue Group)

We were so excited to see Dianne waiting to greet us again at Garden View Village. She has had appointments that have conflicted with our last 3 visits, and it was clear that she missed us dearly! We have been learning a lot about seeds, plants and gardening at school and decided to do a few related activities at Garden View Village today. After we finished our snack, we read a story about the life cycle of a sunflower, where we were able to showcase all that we have learned about how plants grow! We then did a directed colouring activity where the students had to follow oral directions indicating where to put various items in the garden. They all did a great job! We brought these art pieces downstairs to show our senior friends, who were so excited to see us! The students are getting so good at greeting their senior friends and asking how they are. Once we were situated around the table, we sprung another art project on our senior friends- they joined the Kindergarten students in drawing flowers on paper the students had painted with watercolours. It was amazing to see the talent in our senior friends and to see the growth in the students’ abilities. Some students chose to give their directed colouring activity to their senior friend and others decided to bring it home. After saying thank you and goodbye downstairs, we went back upstairs to play Face Off with our Power of Ten cards. Our special helper, Evyn, did a lovely job teaching Dianne how to play, and Lane did a great job teaching his mom. All of the other students played really well together too! A special thank you to Kim for coming out to help us today, we love when parents join us! My apologies, it was too busy to get any pictures today! However, you will have a chance to see the flower pictures soon… (stay tuned!!)

Music Monday

The Kindergarten students did a wonderful job joining the rest of the students at Marysville, as well as all of the students at Lindsay Park, in singing for Music Monday! We apologize to any parents who ventured to the platzl and missed our performance. Due to weather, we would not have had a piano to accompany the singing in the platzl and had to make a last minute decision to move the performance to Lindsay Park gym. Thank you for practising at home- the singing voices created such a beautiful sound!
