Mystery Chapter Book Revealed!

We have been reading a mystery chapter book aloud since the beginning of January. The students have really enjoyed learning about the Popper family and their beloved penguins. They have been able to retell the sections of the story as we read, and have had incredible predictions about what might happen next. We read the final pages today, and after sharing our ideas about the title, revealed the cover to discover we were reading, "Mr. Popper's Penguins". After sharing aloud, students then created a journal entry about their favourite part of the story. They were so excited to hear that this book has been made into a movie, and I told them that they might be able to convince their parents to watch it sometime over spring break :) I am now on a hunt for our next chapter book for the spring!

Pink Shirt Day

We had a great time learning about and celebrating Pink Shirt Day on Friday!
We also had a wonderful surprise visitor for music- Mr. Jorgensen! He played a lot of fun songs on his guitar- ask your child about the Pete the Cat song, the Pickles song and the Rooster song!

We were able to demonstrate how much we have learned about reading music with a fun game Ms. Lizzy played with us too!

We completed our Family Books on Friday, and we were so excited to put them together and take them home. I hope you have enjoyed reading them with your child!

Here is the video of our performance of One Light, One Sun for the Pink Shirt Day assembly:

And here is the video of the entire Pink Shirt Day assembly, thanks to Mrs. Hammond:

Ski Day Fun!

We had SUCH a beautiful day for our first ski day! The kids did an amazing job on the hill, and there were tons of proud faces! Thank you SO much to all of the parent volunteers who came out to make this day a huge success, especially those running up and down the magic carpet!

Building Inukshuks With Mrs. Keiver!

We have learned a lot about northern life with Mrs. Keiver, and we have been really interested in learning more about inukshuks. She decided we were ready to try a project she usually does with Grade 3 students, where we were able to construct our own inukshuks from shreddies, marshmallows, pretzels, and icing! It was such a fun, STICKY project :)
