Dear Parents,

This morning I attended a meeting with the Ministry of Highways, the City of Kimberley, Evan Stavrev Operations Manager for Kimberley Zone SD6 and Wayne Pelter- SD 6 Health and Safety District Representative about the new crosswalk location at the intersection of Highway 95 A and 309 Ave. in front of the Marysville Arena.

From the discussion this morning we have been told that the crosswalk change is effective immediately!! We are hoping with a few changes to current practice, the transition will be smooth, and that the new protocols will make it safe for our students. These changes affect some of the long standing protocols around parking and dropping children off for school.

Crosswalk:

The children will continue to be crossed by our crossing guard Penny Peyman. The children will be crossing on the Rails to Trails side of 309th Ave. The path that leads to the school is for pedestrians as well as bikers so we have asked the children, for safety purposes, to please continue the practice of walking their bike from the crosswalk to the school.

Parking:

The City of Kimberley is placing NO PARKING signs along the fence as the children will be walking down the path.

The staff parking lot causes concern as the children will be walking on the path across the opening of the parking lot. We will ask that there is No Parent and Visitor Parking in the staff parking lot.

The dumpster and the yellow recycle bin will be moved to the far end of the parking lot to increase visibility for the walking children.

While change is often difficult we have tried to think of the children’s safety in all of the above decisions.  Thank you for your cooperation and support in assisting us in this new transition.

Please contact Marilyn Bancks with any questions or concerns.
