Brains

We have just started working with the Mind Up! Program this year. To begin, we learned about a few parts of the brain: the prefrontal cortex (the wise leader), the amygdala (the security guard) and the hippocampus (the saver of memories). We were very curious about our brains, which is obvious from our amazing questions:

Day 1
Titus- why is it slimy?
Jax- how does our brain stay in our head?
Anika- What does your brain do if you swirl around?
Rylee- why is there lines inside your brain?
Sophia- (points to right side) there’s the math part and (points to left side) there’s the drawing part. Why do we get smart- learn letters, ABCs?
Jax- how does it make you see?
Anika- how does it stay up at night?
Zachary- how do memories get from the memory keeper to the wise leader?
Matthew- I don’t know if the brain is slimy inside
Easton- where is the brain in your body?
Sophia- where is your heart?
Ozzy- why is it sticky?
Kyleigh- how does your body move around? How do you grow?
Jordyn- how does it beep or move a bit?
Ella- how does it think about things because I don’t know how it does that

Day 2
Easton- how does the brain talk to the rest of our body? How does it control everything in the body?
Matthew- Why is the brain slimy inside?
Jax- I wonder how the brain stays inside the head?
Anika- How doe our eyes get messages to the brain?
Brooke- How does our brain stay in our head at night?
Zachary- How does the wise leader talk to the security guard and the memory saver?
Sophia- How is our brain smart? How does it learn?
Easton- How does your brain move your hands and feet?
Oscar- How does the brain control the head?
Kyleigh- How does it make you see? How does it make decisions about what you do?
Tyson- How does it keep your memories and make them stay in for a long time?
Jordyn- How can it stay in when you lay down? Maybe there is sticky stuff in there.
Ella- how do you keep your memories?
Ozzy- How does it make your hands move? (motions that there is something from your hands to your head)
Rylee- How can it not get cold out in the snow?
Titus- how does it get brain freeze when it doesn’t even get frozen?
Kyleigh- How does your body grow and your hair grow? Your head makes you go to sleep. What happens when you sleep? You dream. Where do your dreams come from? Your dreams are in your eyes.
Ziggy- How does your brain make you hear? I think it comes to your brain and it sorts it out.
Bryden- I wonder where your brain goes when you lie down? (signals that maybe it moves from the top of your head to your forehead)

I was blown away-and admittedly, a little intimidated. There are some BIG questions here! We will be exploring these questions in the next little while!
