February Fun!

We have been learning a lot about our families, and have had some very interesting conversations about them! We have been practising drawing our families, and extended this work on Monday with a video lesson on drawing a person (thank you to Mrs. Makeiv's K class in Nelson for the link!). We watched the video, and looked at the family portraits created by Mrs. Makeiv's students for inspiration. We noticed how they were able to adapt the main template to fit for their families and the activities they like to do together. We then tried our own family portraits, first on whiteboards and then on paper.

On Wednesday, we took part in Carnaval at Lindsay Park Elementary School. The day was so well organized, and the students learned a lot about this special winter event! You will notice that our students were in their buddy reading groups for this day, so there's only a few K's in the pictures from my group! However, my hope is that these pictures might still spark discussion with your child about the activities and the stations. We owe a big thank you to Allie Kostiuk at Lindsay Park for organizing a great day for our students!

On Thursday, we continued learning more about our families. Using the idea of a Getting-To-Know-You Bingo game, we brainstormed our own list of categories we could use to interview our friends. We narrowed the list down to six items (I have a sister, I have a pet, I share a bedroom, We go out for dinner, We go on the chairlift, and We go sledding) to ask our friends about. We loved acting like reporters with our clipboards, asking our friends the questions on our chart. Most of us were able to fill our boxes with more than one name, and we made so many connections with others over these topics.

On Friday, we enjoyed another great music lesson with Ms. Lizzy. She brought some really cool rhythm instruments for us to experiment with, and we enjoyed all having the opportunity to play along to a song!

  1. What a great week. It is so good to see Liam back in class with his mates. He is one happy boy! I have returned home for a while - should be back in a couple of months. Looking forward to reading the KG blog...Liam is so lucky to have you as a teacher.

  2. You are very welcome for the link! Ron Mulvey is an artist who works in our school from time to time. Thank you for sharing your family photos! It is so fun to see how everyone can make the basic person drawing their own. I am very inspired by your family interview sheet too!
