Field Trip to the Open Gates Garden

We had such a wonderful first class trip on the bus today! We first ventured off to the 'train park', and enjoyed playing with our friends over there. We then went to the Open Gates Garden for some exploration. Dirk De Geus from Wildsight showed us how to press apples to make delicious apple juice, and we especially loved seeing the mush come out of the machine! We also were able to dig around the garden and see what treasures were waiting to be found... carrots big and small, a green pumpkin, big worms, edible flowers, chives, mint, a potato, and of course, many BIG beautiful sunflowers! We were able to bring some sunflowers back to our classroom, and will be using these to guide some of our learning over the next few weeks. You may wish to use these pictures to prompt your child to tell you stories about their trip. I want to say an extra special THANK YOU to Dirk for our amazing garden experience, and to our wonderful parent volunteers! You all helped make this trip such a success!
