Mystery Reader #2 and Frost Detectives!

We had our second Mystery Reader join our classroom on Friday! Students had a lot of fun guessing who it might be, and loved the story, One-Dog Canoe. Students also enjoyed asking questions and sharing their own stories about fishing and skiing, two of our Mystery Reader's favourite activities. Thanks for coming in, Bob!

With our recent shift in weather, we needed to get out and take a closer look at what was happening outside. We became Frost Detectives this week, investigating what we saw at different times of day. Our investigations led us to questions about shadows and the sun's heat, temperature, and differences between valleys and mountains. Ask your child what they saw on the ground and on the leaves, and the changes they noticed at different times of day.

We have also started two other projects.

We have started looking at, and asking questions about, squash. We will be exploring the differences and similarities between pumpkins and squash varieties. Ask your child what they have already learned about squash in our classroom.

We have also started investigating nature art, and have been inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy. This group loved looking at the pictures of his creations using rocks, leaves, and sticks. If you are interested, you can look up more of his creations online and discuss them with your child. Students have collected a variety of these materials and are ready to start their own creations!

Stay tuned for updates on both of these projects!
